The Simple Woman's Daybook
For today: Tuesday May 17, 2011
Outside my window... it's overcast and in the upper 40's. My uggs have made a return to my feet. You just never know about the weather in May in Indiana, could be HOT, COLD or something in between... and they could all happen in the SAME week!
I am thinking... that I like the slower pace I've been taking lately. I naturally hurry, trying to break that habit. I'm also thinking that having the house on the market is really starting we wear on me. Living so that at the drop of the hat we can leave so someone can tour the house is hard.
I'm creating... not much right now. No space or time for the creative juices to flow. :-(
I'm going... to hopefully and finally catch up on my photoblog tonight. I lost my card and the new one should arrive tomorrow... but this morning I found my other card! Love the camera on my phone but ready to get back behind the Nikon.
I am thankful... for new online friends! And for my new study on Matthew! It's been too long since I've done a Precept study... I'm ready to jump back in!
From the kitchen... today is leftover day! I made enough Sunday and yesterday we are having leftovers for lunch and dinner! A nice rest and break for me!
I am hoping (and praying)... someone will be interested in buying our house soon. Also that I can find ways to support and help David in the next month and a half... B.I.G. project... lots of long hours.
I am reading... Organized Simplicity, 31 Days to Clean, Anne of Avonlea. A Tale of Two Cities is my current audio book. When I finish these I need to get started on Gone With The Wind! Our summer book club book!
What I'm hearing... Esterlyn CD playing and Aaron crunching an apple.
Around the house... things are clean and in order except for a few scattered toys.
One of my favorite things... is our back porch. The room with all windows! Someday I hope to have one with a better view tho. ;-)
A few plans for the rest of the week... not sure exactly, one night is date night! Hope it involves a house showing or 3 or 4. (or just one that's profitable!)
A photo for sharing...

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today: Tuesday January 11, 2011
Outside my window... Snow! Fresh, clean snow. I love how new snow is so bright!
I am thinking... about cleaning and organizing and what's next on my to-do list... but this is always on my mind. :-) And about the results of my Strengths Finder test. I love learning more about myself. These results are amazing! (I'll blog more about this later.)
I'm creating... a memorize-the-book-of-Philippia
I am going... to shovel the sidewalk if I can before Lydia wakes up from her nap.
I am thankful for... our washing machine. With the illness we dealt with last week and still are some today... I don't know what I would have done without our old, small, precious washing machine!
From the kitchen... not much is happening. I made a menu plan last week but didn't make half of what was on it. The stomach bug saves tons on the grocery budget! Also I think my kombucha scoby may have died :-( Sad day. Just might be knocking on my MIL's door for a "baby" soon!
I am hoping... for an opportunity and place to get out my paints again in the near future. Painting makes me happy. And I'm hoping that someday we'll live near a pool. I miss my laps.
I am reading... The Year of Living Biblically and the Bible. I've started several other books but they are offically on hold as I focus on finishing things in all areas of my life and household.
I am hearing... the neighbor on his 4 wheeler, I think, and the fan for the heater.
Around the house... it's mostly clean. The basement has toys everywhere -you'd never know I put 2 bins of toys away last night! And our 2nd bathroom now has a toilet again! Despite feeling like the flu was coming on my husband finished up the tile around it and put it in last night! I almost forgot that room was down there... so many things came up preventing us from finishing up down there... too many to even list. But SO excited the end is near! We have a weird transition strip area to figure out and a few tiles to lay in the entryway spot!
One of my favorite things... honey in my chai. It's a little thing, but it is on my list of favorite things. I think our honey order will be in soon!! It's been so long without it! Another favorite thing... getting my groceries delivers, esp. on snowy days like these!
A few plans for the rest of the week... Awana tomorrow night, maybe shopping for boots later in the week and a little photoshoot fun on Saturday. (I'm not doing the shoot... but I might appear in it!! Who knows?) :-)
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

The Simple Woman's Daybook
Outside my window... it is sunny and a chilly 35 degrees. Yesterday we enjoyed TWO walks in the random warm humid weather! It smelled like Spring yesterday, today it looks like fall. The yuck part of fall. Bare trees, dead grass and the knowledge that a good snow fall is weeks away and spring flowers are even further!
I am thinking... that I am looking forward to the short work week for David and my in-laws coming to stay for a looong weekend!!
AND that it would be awesome if the kids napped a little longer than usual today. I have some cleaning to finish up before company gets here and I'd really like to have time to just sit in the quiet.
I am thankful for... my grandma. Such a blessing to have her visit! So fun to have someone to talk to about homemaking when she lived on the farm, learning new skills and talking recipes!
AND that Aaron's fall this morning wasn't very bad despite what it first looked like and we DID NOT have to go to the hospital!! YAY!! His tongue and chin will heal.
I am wearing... black yoga pants, pink T and (not so white anymore) down vest and old crocks as "slippers" Currently hunting for that perfect pair of real slippers... you know, ones that have some traction so I don't slid down the stairs anymore or slip around on the hard floors but keep my feet comfy-cozy.
I am remembering... Thanksgiving 2 years ago when I made my first turkey! Last year David smoked outside, but this year it's back to my turn. I will be stuffing my turkey with apples, pineapple, celery and carrots... what about you?
I am going... to take it slow this week and enjoy having family all around.
I am reading... “Little Women" for book club and the Bible. Not as far ahead of my yearly schedule as before but I'm in Daniel and very much enjoying it.
I am hoping... I don't get a headache today. I was busy yesterday and didn't drink much water AT ALL. oops.
On my mind... thinking about all the fun things coming up... a fondue birthday dinner, Thanksgiving, putting up our Christmas tree, Christmas! and BIL's wedding!
Noticing that… my back gets sore when I am busy. not cool.
From the kitchen… for lunch today we had leftover cheeseburger in paradise soup.
One of my favorite things: bright sunlight coming through the windows and a BIG cup of chai
A few plans for the rest of the week: family family family

The kids, enjoying the new set up on our little porch.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window... the sky is BLUE and the garden and flowers are growing! Aaron and I were just out there snacking on some sugar snap peas! (maybe my favorite thing to grow!) And one of my sunflowers is taller than me!
I am pondering... peace.
I am thankful for... the long relaxing holiday weekend!
From the kitchen... we're having small operations weekend... meals are planned to involve as little or no oven needed. TOO. HOT.
I am wearing... gray hand-me-up shorts from my sister! (thanks bob!) and blue & white striped t-shirt
I am creating... a list/form/sheet thing so I can write everything for the week on one piece of paper... meals, to-dos, calender events, etc. It's been an evolving project and I think this morning I came up with a plan to make it even better and more efficient!
I am going... to play with my kids today!
I am reading... Cry, the Beloved Country. Only about 3 chapters left! The Mission of Motherhood. Highly recommend this book! The Bible. I have a 4 book mark plan going.
I am hoping... we don't have many more days with temps in the 90's the rest of the summer.
I am hearing... Aaron playing on the porch, driving his cars around and Lydia quietly talking as she hopefully falls asleep for a short morning nap.
Around the house... things look normal. A few toys out here and there. The kitchen is mostly cleaned up from breakfast. One load of laundry that needs folded and taken upstairs. All the curtains OPEN!
One of my favorite things... having David home for a three day weekend!!
A few plans for the rest of the week... a short trip to visit family is planned.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window... it's overcast and 74 but the birds are still chirping.
I am thinking... it feels like Friday... or I want it to be Friday!
I am thankful for... the small quiet town we live in ... even if it's under major construction until next year!
From the kitchen... chickpeas are in the crockpot just about ready for humus and the roaster chicken is done and ready to be de-boned for several chicken pot pies!
I am wearing... my holistic mama T and pants! (yes, it's June and I actually have pants on! rare!)
I am creating... Miss L's What I Love About You 9 month blog post and drafting out some tot school things for Mr. A for this fall.
I am going... go pick up our co-op order after naps and plan for tomorrow.
I am reading... The Bible... I'm a bit behind in my read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year plan, but working on catching up. I think the read-the-Bible-in-90-days is starting again soon! Anyone going to do it??
I am hoping... to be productive tonight so tomorrow night I can go out for my weekly prayer and planning retreat!
I am hearing... silence for the most part... once in awhile I hear Mr. A talking as he falls asleep.
Around the house... I have too many projects started and not enough finished. But I'm not letting it stress me out! :-)
One of my favorite things... our sporadic trip to the library today (I love the library. always have. always will.) and Mr. A seeing all the construction along the way. He was talking.non.stop the whole time about the vehicles and what they were doing and what they're called and what color they were... etc! He talks non-stop ALL the time these days, but I know he just has so much to say and ask he doesn't have time to slow down. :-)
A few plans for the rest of the week: hopefully finishing up some of the little things left on our great room project and I'd like to make it to the farmers market on Thursday.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
This sums up just oh, so many things....

Mr. A using a saw book to try to saw things.
Miss. L (who now pulls herself up!) trying to get Mr. A's toys... his automoblox (a current FAV!)
a dirty window from little fingers
shoe molding trim that still needs to get put back in
a dirty wall -that's soon to get a fresh coat of RED paint!
and last but not least our van, Sid, in the background.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window... the sun has just gone down... those perfect few moments of dusk that I love.
I am thinking... how exciting it is to have the major part of our remodeling finished! (Now it's my turn, reorganizing kitchen cabinet contents and PAINTING, oh, so much painting!)
I am thankful for... my husband and his many, many skills and talents! It was so neat to see him change our kitchen and front room COMPLETELY around and do it all by himself.
From the kitchen... we had a roast in the crockpot for dinner (with carrots... THE BEST kind of carrots are cooked with my roast recipe!) and no-bake cheesecake leftover from yesterday = always a win!
I am wearing... maybe the clothes I wore yesterday, maybe not?
I am creating... hmm, I don't feel very creative today.
I am going... go to bed early. A combination of either my granny being over or my husband at home for over a week now... tomorrow's gonna be a change and I need my rest!
I am reading... The Sunny Side for my book club
I am hoping... both kids sleep in again tomorrow!
I am hearing... not much. Faint hum of the fridge, maybe, and the tap of dh's finger on the ipad. It's a quiet house when children sleep.
Around the house... things look much different than they did last week! I keep saying I have a vacation house -weird, I know, but I feel like our new room shouldn't be in my house, it's too nice! Going to my kitchen is like a vacation...without the sandy beaches outside... hmm, wonder how long I'll feel like this! :-P
One of my favorite things... sitting by our front window, on the couch reading in the morning before everyone else wakes up.
A few plans for the rest of the week: our schedule is pretty empty. Just the way I like it. Plenty of room for something spontaneous! But I'll probably be trying to paint in all my free time. I'm really not that spontaneous, after all.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
Miss L has been cruising (quite fast) everywhere on her belly for months now... today she crawled! We only saw her do it twice. This is the second time when I had the camera ready to go! (I love her little half smile expression!)
